Laser blood irradiation and photobiomodulation: a guide to the research
From principles to research findings
How do researchers study the effects of light on blood, blood vessels and other tissues? This guide introduces the methods, the role of microcirculation and individual scientific studies. Choose a topic to discover what researchers investigated, what they found and which questions remain open.
Principles and use
Start with an explanation of the methods. This will help you understand what individual studies actually investigated.

How to read a scientific study
Four questions are worth asking as you read:
- What was studied? An intravenous application, light through the skin, an intranasal application or another approach?
- Who or what was studied? Cells, animals or humans? How many participants were included?
- What was the comparison? Was there a control group, and what other care did participants receive?
- What changed? A laboratory measurement, a test result, symptoms or daily functioning?
In everyday terms: With light, the application site, the parameters and the outcome being measured all matter. That is why the articles explain each approach and its findings separately.
Frequently asked questions
Which article should I start with?
Start with the overview of laser blood irradiation methods in the first section. If you are interested in circulation, continue with the article on viscosity and microcirculation. Then choose a specific research topic.
Do all articles discuss the same way of applying light?
The series covers laser blood irradiation and related photobiomodulation research. Each article identifies the method it discusses. Findings from one approach cannot automatically be attributed to another device or application site.
Where can I find the original studies?
Sources and explanations of their findings are provided in the individual articles. This guide helps you choose a topic. Articles marked as coming soon have no link yet; we will add one after the English version is published.
