This subcategory focuses on vitamins, minerals and DHA with authorised health claims, alongside substances discussed in the field of nootropics and adaptogens. When choosing a product, it is important to distinguish between an authorised claim for a specific nutrient and general interest in another ingredient.
Health claims authorised in the EU
For selected nutrients, we use health claims authorised in the European Union:
- Zinc, iron and iodine contribute to normal cognitive function.
- Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) contributes to normal mental performance.
- Vitamins B1, B3, B6, B12, biotin, magnesium and vitamin C contribute to normal psychological function and to the normal functioning of the nervous system.
- DHA (docosahexaenoic acid, omega-3) contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA.
These authorised claims apply exclusively to the specified vitamins, minerals and fatty acids in individual products that meet all conditions of use.
Other substances discussed in biohacking
Ingredients discussed in nootropics, adaptogens and nervous system research include:
- Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) and other mushroom extracts
- Alpha-GPC and citicoline (CDP-choline)
- L-theanine – for example, sourced from green tea
- Phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine
- Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR)
- Botanical extracts such as Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi), Ginkgo biloba, Rhodiola rosea and ashwagandha.
These biohacking ingredients and extracts are presented solely in terms of their composition, chemical form, concentration, standardisation and origin. We do not attribute health effects or medicinal properties to them, nor do we make promises concerning changes to brain structure, increased neuroplasticity, the elimination of brain fog or effects on mental state.
The authorised health claims above apply only to the specifically named nutrients, not to the other ingredients. The inclusion of a substance in this overview does not imply its availability in our range or the authorisation of all its forms for use in food supplements.
Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
