Vitamin E: benefits, sources, daily intake and supplementation

Compare seven selected food supplements by the amount of vitamin E in their recommended daily serving. Explore multivitamins, collagen drinks and capsule formulas, listed by declared vitamin E content from 48 mg to 12 mg, rather than by effectiveness.

What health claim is authorised for vitamin E?

Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

Under Regulation (EU) No 432/2012, this claim may be used only for a food that meets the conditions for being a source of vitamin E. EFSA assesses the scientific evidence; the European Commission authorises health claims through legislation.

This claim does not mean that a supplement removes wrinkles, improves fertility, cleans blood vessels or replaces sun protection. A higher percentage NRV does not demonstrate a stronger or guaranteed effect.

12 mg = 100% NRV: how to compare servings

The adult nutrient reference value for vitamin E used in EU food labelling is 12 mg α-TE. Therefore, 24 mg is 200%, 30 mg is 250%, 39 mg is 325% and 48 mg is 400% NRV. NRV is neither an individual supplement recommendation nor a safe upper intake limit.

α-TE means alpha-tocopherol equivalents. Some product pages use TE, while others state mg. This comparison uses declared vitamin E amounts and percentages rather than calculating them from the weight of a vitamin ingredient. If the form or value is unclear, check the current label.

15% of 12 mg is 1.8 mg. This calculation is not a universal threshold for any arbitrary portion of every food. The conditions for a “source of vitamin E” claim depend on the applicable rules and product type.

Food sources and forms of vitamin E

Vegetable oils, nuts and seeds provide vitamin E. A supplement is not automatically necessary for everyone.

Labels may list d-alpha-tocopherol, dl-alpha-tocopherol or their esters. Conversion from IU depends on the form. Do not compare IU and mg using one universal conversion factor.

How to choose a supplement containing vitamin E

  • Compare the complete ingredients list. A DHA formula, multivitamin and collagen drink contain different additional ingredients and have different restrictions.
  • Add up overlapping ingredients. Full daily servings of both Man and Woman would provide 78 mg vitamin E and 100 mg caffeine in total. This calculation is not a recommendation to combine them.
  • Check allergens. HAIR contains fish; MENO contains fish and soy; KINGdha and KINGman Pro contain soy.
  • Follow green tea warnings. HAIR and KINGimmuno 2.0 contain green tea ingredients. Follow each label, including restrictions on taking the product on an empty stomach or combining it with other green tea products.
  • Consider medicines and the entire formula. If you take anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines, ask a doctor or pharmacist before using a vitamin E supplement. Other ingredients, such as vitamin K or nattokinase, also matter.

Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily serving. Keep out of reach of young children. Seek professional advice about suitability during pregnancy, breastfeeding, if you have a medical condition or before planned surgery. This guide does not provide dosing instructions for children.

Common questions about vitamin E

Which product has the most vitamin E in this selection?

Swedish Collagen HAIR declares 48 mg vitamin E per daily serving of 25 ml, equivalent to 400% NRV. This compares content, not suitability or effectiveness.

Does 400% NRV mean four times the effect?

No. NRV percentages compare the amount with a food-labelling reference value. They do not measure effectiveness or individual need.

Do I need a vitamin E supplement every day?

Not automatically. Food also provides vitamin E. Whether a supplement is appropriate depends on your circumstances; NRV is not a supplementation prescription.

Is vitamin E in a collagen drink the same as collagen?

No. They are different ingredients. The authorised claim about protecting cells from oxidative stress in this guide concerns vitamin E.

Can I combine several of these supplements?

This comparison does not recommend taking them together. Vitamin E and other vitamins, minerals, caffeine and plant ingredients can overlap. Consider the complete formulas.

What does mg α-TE mean?

It means milligrams of alpha-tocopherol equivalents, used to express vitamin E content. It is not automatically the weight of the whole ingredient, such as tocopheryl acetate.

Can I compare mg and IU directly?

No. The conversion depends on the form of vitamin E. Check the precise form on the label before converting.

What if I take medicines that affect blood clotting?

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before adding a supplement. Provide details of all medicines and supplements so that vitamin E and the other ingredients can be assessed together.

Sources and comparison method

Values were checked on the English product pages on 18 October 2026. Each product card links to its source. These are declared values, not independent laboratory measurements. If information differs, check the current label of your specific pack. This selection of seven products is not the complete range.
