Stimlight: 4 light colours + 850 nm infrared head

Stimlight is a light-based device with interchangeable heads. Four visible light heads are complemented by a near-infrared head with a wavelength of 850 nm. Learn how the heads differ, which operating modes Stimlight offers and how to use the device correctly.

Stimlight uses interchangeable light heads with different wavelengths. Blue, green, yellow and red are within the visible part of the light spectrum.

The infrared head uses a wavelength of 850 nm, which belongs to the near-infrared region and lies outside the normally visible part of the spectrum.

Most important: Stimlight is one complete light-based device with several interchangeable heads. The 850 nm infrared head is one of the options included within the Stimlight system.

What does 850 nm mean?

850 nm refers to the wavelength of light. A nanometre (nm) is a unit used to describe wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation.

Visible light occupies only part of the spectrum. A wavelength of 850 nm lies beyond the visible red region and belongs to the near-infrared part of the spectrum.

How do the Stimlight heads differ?

The main technical difference between the interchangeable heads is the wavelength of light used.

🌈 Visible light

Four Stimlight heads operate within the visible part of the spectrum.

Blue: 465 nm
Green: 525 nm
Yellow: 592 nm
Red: 625 nm

🔴 Near-infrared light

The fifth head uses a wavelength of 850 nm.

This wavelength lies outside the normally visible part of the spectrum.

Why is the 850 nm infrared light barely visible?

The human eye cannot perceive near-infrared light at 850 nm in the same way as blue, green, yellow or red visible light.

The infrared head may therefore appear to glow only very faintly or almost not at all. Low visibility of the light does not by itself indicate a fault with the device.

Does 850 nm have different optical properties?

Yes. Different wavelengths of light interact differently with materials and biological tissues through reflection, scattering and absorption.

Near-infrared light is therefore also studied scientifically in relation to how light propagates through biological tissues.

Important distinction:

Results from measurements or scientific studies using a particular wavelength cannot automatically be applied to every light-based device. The specifications of the individual device, including output, distance, operating mode and duration of use, also matter.

What does photobiomodulation mean?

Photobiomodulation is an area of research concerned with the responses of biological systems to light with defined wavelengths, intensity and dose.

The results of an individual study apply to the device, parameters, application method and study population that were actually investigated. Findings obtained with another device therefore cannot automatically be attributed to Stimlight.

How do you use Stimlight with the 850 nm infrared head?

Always follow the original instructions supplied with the device.

  1. Attach the 850 nm infrared head to the Stimlight handle.
  2. Keep the skin clean and dry.
  3. Direct the head towards the selected area.
  4. Maintain the recommended distance of approximately 1.5 to 2 cm.
  5. Select 2 Hz, 20 Hz or continuous light mode.
  6. Set the duration of use according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Safe use:

Follow the manufacturer's instructions, recommended distance, duration of use and all safety information. Longer use or reducing the distance does not automatically mean a more appropriate method of application.

Stimlight 850 nm and use around joint areas

According to the instructions, the Stimlight infrared head can be used locally on a selected area of the body, for example around the knee, elbow, wrist or ankle.

The 850 nm wavelength has different optical properties from visible light. This fact alone does not establish a specific health or therapeutic effect.

What is important to know?

Stimlight is not presented in this article as a diagnostic or therapeutic device. Information about the 850 nm wavelength describes technical and optical properties of light, not the treatment outcome of a particular condition.

Joint nutrition: what should you compare?
